| | geeky | ] | Actually it's been here for a while now, but I just now got around to posting about it. The software that came with it is in Japanese, but I managed to find an English version since the camera is also available in the UK.
The image quality is surprisingly good, considering it's only 1.3 megapixels. It can take stills up to 1280x960, but 480x272 (full PSP screen) is the default. The video can be up to 480x272 at a smooth 30fps.
Here's an example video shot with the PSP camera, recorded in 320x240 resolution at 15fps. Low quality saves space, and recording it in full-screen resolution would've resulted in a stretched video when converted to Youtube's flash format.
If you have a PSP, this is definitely a must-buy. Although the software limits video length to 15 seconds, the "Camera" option from the XMB (on firmwares 3.00 and higher) has no such limits. |

| PSP Quake |
[Aug. 29th, 2007|01:32 am] |
Yeah, that's right. Quake on the PSP. It's not official though, it's just a homebrew port. But it's PERFECT... Ok, nearly perfect. It seems to crash when starting a new game when there's one already going on. Other than that, it's perfect.
Go look for it on: www.psp-homebrew.eu
Because of the limited controls of the PSP, however, it took some tweaking to find the best control scheme. I believe I have now found it. This control scheme is based on the one I use in Red Faction 2.
Analog Defaults to: Up - Walk Forward Down - Walk Back Left - Turn Left Right - Turn Right
Action Buttons: Attack - RTrigger Jump/Swim Up - LTrigger Step Left - Square Step Right - Circle Look Up - Triangle Look Down - Cross Center View - DPad Left Change Weapon - DPad Right Swim Up - DPad Up Swim Down - DPad Down
Lookspring = OFF |

| PSP Oddity... |

| | confused | ] | Am I the only one this is happening to?
I plug in my PSP to charge the battery... The power light turns from green to orange to indicate that it's charging. But, if I do anything involving the wifi while it's charging, the power light turns back to green, indicating to me that it has stopped charging the battery and is running on AC power. Then, when the wifi disconnects, the power light remains green even though the AC adapter is still plugged in. The only way to get it to turn orange again is to unplug it, shut down the system, and plug it in again.
Is it supposed to do that? o.o |

| | yay | ] | I finally managed to extract the wallpaper from my PSP! I have been needing to do that since I lost the source image. So here it is, my cool and slightly disturbing PSP wallpaper.

Public reaction to this picture is invariably the same. "Oh, it's Tails. .....Oh... He's all bloody." Makes me chuckle every time. :)
If you're in the same situation I was, follow the cut link for instructions. ( How to do this... ) |

| | too hot | ] | Yep.
Today's my birthday. I'm 27, 3 years away from 30. I hate being old...
In other news, my computer is temporarily unusable. The power supply's fan refuses to consistently spin on it's own, which means it's in constant danger of overheating and going up in smoke. I'll be using my parents computer and my PSP to get online until I can get a new power supply.
I should just get an entire new computer since it's 9 years old, but I can't afford it yet. I'm getting there slowly, and the money I got in some of my birthday cards is helping. |

| The obligatory Anthrocon post. |
[Jul. 15th, 2007|07:21 pm] |
| [ | Current Mood |
| | buzzin | ] | So last week I went to the biggest furry convention in the WORLD, which I've always wanted to attend... Anthrocon. There were almost 3,000 people there, and of those, about 350 had fursuits. Forgive me if I ramble in this post, but I'm going to try to list as many memories as possible, in no particular order, before I lose them. Besides, this post is WAY overdue.
I remember seeing a Jack Sparrow impersonator... and WOW, he was good. He had all the mannerisms and eye twitches down PERFECTLY. He even did a good job on the voice.
I remember being handed a Sony Cybershot camera by a fursuiter, and being asked to film the fursuit parade. And then, after the parade was over, I remember having a hell of a time finding the guy in the "headless lounge".
I remember a fursuit that had vibrating paws... The name was DarkRage. They caused any fur they touched to have an instant relaxing meltdown.
I remember playing Wario Ware on the Wii in the gaming room. That game has some of the most random and hilarious minigames of any Wario Ware I've ever played.
I remember meeting Marci McAdam, a very famous furry artist who specializes in eye-burning tooth-rotting cuteness. She's very friendly, and extremely talented.
I remember a particularly cute skunk fursuiter named Mirawais (pronounced like "mirror" without the last R, then "wise"), and I remember him frequently covering his eyes due to his shyness.
I remember there being lines at the elevators on the second day. Fursuiters got priority in those lines. Next year, I'll have a fursuit.
I remember someone having vomited in one of the elevators. I was unlucky enough to take that elevator, along with several others. I was staying on the 20th floor, and for some reason, everyone in the hotel on every floor chose that moment to call the elevators. It stopped on every floor on the way down, and we tried to steer others away from it.
I remember the woot root! It was really a daikon, but it had a very phallic shape. Because of this, someone in our group put a condom on it... which eventually broke, due to the root's length.
I remember several occurrences in room 2005, a room other than my own. Those who attended AC will most likely know which room I'm referring to. I'll list those memories in a separate post.
I remember Kage's "story hour".
I remember walking around downtown Pittsburg with my roommates looking for a good place to eat. We picked a little asian place near the hotel.
I remember, on the trip up, we stopped at a Waffle House. A few of us decided it'd be funny to annoy another member of our group by making an obnoxious sound ("OWWM!") every time she took a bite of her food. And it WAS funny. XD
I remember, on the trip back home, we stopped at a gas station. One member of our party picked up some Mallo Cups, a Sobe Liz Blizz, and some beef jerky... which she referred to as badger eggs, badger milk and badger meat respectively. This triggered a slew of badger references and jokes amidst fits of laughter from all of us.
Ah... Good times. I will be there next year, without fail. |

| Why I Use the DSK Layout |
[Jun. 28th, 2007|04:42 am] |
| [ | Current Mood |
| | ranting | ] | (DSK = Dvorak Simplified Keyboard)
Go ahead and mock me for using a "ridiculous" layout. I actually did my homework. I did the research, I know the history of keyboards. Because of this, I believe Dvorak is obviously superior, and here's why...
Originally, the keyboard for the prototype of the typewriter, designed by Christopher Sholes, had it's letters arranged alphabetically. But, because of the way the prototype's mechanics worked, typing was subject to frequent jams. Sholes decided that, instead of designing better mechanisms, it'd be easier to place frequently used letters as far apart as possible. This resulted in the layout we're all familiar with: QWERTY.
August Dvorak, creator of the DSK, had the right idea. After the mechanical shortcomings had been fixed, why not place frequently used letters close to each other to make typing faster and easier?
Indeed... Why not? I dare you to dispute THAT.
Sadly, by the time he had finished all his research and gotten his layout patented (1932), the QWERTY layout was already in mass production, and nobody wanted to change... The typewriter was selling so well, why change it? Right?
Well, why DON'T we change it?
We're not using typewriters anymore, that's why! Computers don't have typebars or ink ribbons! Why are we using a keyboard layout that was designed to make up for the mechanical defects of a PROTOTYPE of the TYPEWRITER, a machine that was created in the 1800's?!
Stop being stuck in the past, people. You most likely already have the Dvorak layout available on your system. It's a standard layout, so it's included with nearly every OS, if not all of them.
Switch to it, learn it (takes a week at most), and be better off.
